EB-5 Category : A Green Card that you can "Buy"

Well this post is more out of curiosity than with any intentions to be useful to IMGs - but then it's true: if you got a million dollars sitting around and you desperately need that Green card, there is a way: The EB-5 Track Green card or 'Immigration through Investment'. If an IMG has that kind of money - I guess he or she would not be coming to the US anyways..lol


Some Facts for this Green card track:

1. The US government reserves 10,000 immigrant visas per year for foreign individuals with deep pockets, on basis of their investment in a qualifying commercial enterprise

2. 5000 of these visas are kept aside for individuals investing in specially designated 'regional centers'

3. Investment must be at least a Million Dollars or at least $500,000/- in specially designated areas.

4. The investment must be shown to produce at least 10 new jobs

So how to do apply for investment-based green cards ?

Step 1: If you all really interested, have a business idea and have oil flowing in your backyards, have your hands deep in the Asian stock markets or are rich due to other reasons ;-) , you need
to apply using CIS Form I-526 ("mmigrant Petition by Alien Entrepreneur.")

Step 2: Next, after its approved, you will be granted a provisional residency status upon filing Form I-485

Step 3: Finally, Form I-829 must be filed within 90 days before the end of two years since intial admit to the United States as a conditional resident - which gives a permanent green card status...

This would really be an extreme route to a MD Residency via green card..lol
